“The Master is come, and calleth for thee . . .” (John 11:28b KJV)
Hummingbirds fascinate me.
My dad lives out in the country of northeast Georgia, and on his porch sit three hummingbird feeders.
During one visit, I sat down and watched them zip through the air like little bees as they traveled from feeder to feeder.
Grabbing my iPad, I just had to research the little creatures—their size, speed, and the way they flash their colored feathers make them nothing short of magnificent. I was soon even more amazed by what I learned about their migration patterns.
Scientists have discovered that during the winter, hummingbirds will migrate from the southern states of the US to Mexico and Central America and return to the same place to breed in spring. They’ll even feed at the same feeders and rest at the same places along the way!
How do these hummingbirds remember their flight patterns? How do they know which direction to take to make the journey to Mexico and back? They have countless opportunities to make wrong turns and wind up in a different place, yet, by some miracle, something inside them guides the hummingbird back home.
It doesn’t need a map or fancy GPS for navigation. It has no compass. Hummingbirds merely have something inside them that calls them, if you will, to the place they know they’re supposed to go.
All they have to do is yield to that inclination. And, without fail, they end up in the right place at the right time. Amazing!
There have been times in my life when I didn’t know where I was headed. I didn’t know what my next step looked like. But as I began to seek God and renew my mind in His Word, He led me. Just like the hummingbird, He led me to the right place to meet the right people at the right moment in time.
Friends, if God can flawlessly coordinate the migration of His little hummingbirds, then surely He can direct our lives. But this requires that we seek Him, pay attention to that leading (or call), and step out in faith as we move in His direction.
At this very moment, you might not be where you’re supposed to be in life. Maybe you don’t even know where you’re supposed to be going. But I can assure you this—if you seek God with all your heart, you will find His unique call for your life.
He will lead you step by step into the good works that He has prepared for you before the beginning of time. He wants you to live the good life He’s planned for you (see Ephesians 2:10 AMP).
Consider His promise:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.” (Jeremiah 29:11–13 NLT)
He’s calling His children to new heights so that they can discover their divine purpose . . . can you hear the call? The answer is yes. You can hear His call. You do hear His voice (see John 10:1–5, 27).
There’s a witness inside every Christian, declaring that God has a plan for your life. It’s there. It’s calling to you.
I believe that you will discover and fulfill His call for your life, because:
Faithful and absolutely trustworthy is He who is calling you [to Himself for your salvation], and He will do it [He will fulfill His call by making you holy, guarding you, watching over you, and protecting you as His own]. (1 Thessalonians 5:24 AMP)
