It has never been an easy road for Temtha. This is the story of a young woman who found the strength to come to Sak Saum after being referred by another organization that wasn’t quite the right fit. Plagued by a past of rejection, abuse, and mental challenges, Temtha had a heart that yearned to be set free. She was optimistic that this new transition would be the invitation of love and comfort that she has been searching for.
Until this new opportunity arose, a life of trial and tribulation was all that Temtha knew. She is a woman who consistently struggles with her mental health. At the young age of thirteen Temtha was forced to marry, becoming pregnant with a daughter, then was left abandoned. After the divorce she was relocated to a different village with the intentions of finding a job, but instead found herself the victim of assault. The mental and emotional scars from these traumas cut to her core, leaving Temtha unable to fully function physically, emotionally, relationally, or spiritually.
Sak Saum believes in holistic healing and we believe that is a strong reason why Temtha was referred to them. On some level, she knows that this will be helpful. It is the frequent case that parents pressure girls to leave Sak Saum for something they believe will be more rewarding. However, after a great deal of prayer and encouragement, Temtha decided this was the time and place to seek restoration. This is a true answer to prayer!
A Road of Hope
The ability to be restored from such a heavy past has proven to be possible once again! Temtha has slowly learned the skills of sewing, and although she may not be the fastest or most talented, she is thriving! She is currently living in a community house and is being discipled, challenged, and encouraged to live outside of her own needs. However, transformation isn’t an instant change– but wouldn’t that be nice!? No, it is a journey; one step at a time… And sometimes even one step forward, and two steps back.
Temtha recently attended a “Set Free” class which is a time when people learn the basic truths of healthy relationships and experience God’s healing power. While at this class Temtha listened to the teaching on the lies that we often believe. After shedding many tears Temtha was unable to stay through the entire lesson. For Temtha, the lies she had been told were immense and overwhelming. It will take time to chart a new course founded in God’s truth.
Please pray for Temtha, that she will continue to grow in joy and hope. Pray for deep healing with her mental health. Pray for restoration in her spirit and for her emotions to reflect those of her heavenly father. Pray for her life to be a story of a heart truly redeemed and restored! Oh the testimony that will transpire out of this!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8
